How to cook asparagus in the microwave  

I actually feel silly posting this, but I have had people ask me how to cook asparagus so many times, that I thought I might as well put it out there.

There are many other fancier ways to cook asparagus, but this one is just so quick and easy. It gives you more time to focus on your other menu items, like these Lamb Chops with Pomegranate Red Wine Sauce and this Mashed Butternut Squash with Sage Brown Butter Sauce.

How to cook asparagus in the microwave in 3 minutes.

Here are some vegetarian meal ideas 

Rustic chanterelle tart with ruffled filo dough crust sitting on a round wood pedestal that has bark around the edge. There are a few raw, whole chanterelles and some fresh thyme on the board for garnish and a nutcracker who looks like a chef in the background.

They would go nicely with this gorgeous Chanterelle Mushroom & Gruyere Tart. Or you could make this Panzanella (minus the chicken), and add chopped 3 Minute Microwave asparagus.

How to serve your asparagus

Just because it came out of a microwave, doesn’t mean you can’t be a little fancy. Asparagus tongs  are a nice way to get them from the dish to your plate. This way, you don’t have to stab these delicate little green stalks or watch them fall off your serving spoon and onto the table.

Grilled Asparagus  is another option if you have slightly more time. You can grill it on an indoor grill, outdoor grill or even a panini maker.

  • 1 Pound of Asparagus washed and trimmed
  • 1 Tablespoon Extra Virgin Olive Oil
  • Salt and Pepper to taste


  • Rinse asparagus and shake off some of the excess water. Cut the woody end of the stalks (about 2 inches/5cm). Place in microwave safe dish, drizzle with extra virgin olive oil. Season with salt and pepper. Cover with wax paper and microwave on high for 2-3 minutes or until desired tenderness. Careful when removing from microwave because the dish will be very hot.
